Background
In 2019, the McPherson Board of Education made the decision to begin assessing district facilities and putting together a long-term plan to align these buildings with educational goals and opportunities, including a possible bond election. They hired architecture firm DLR Group and construction manager Hutton to assist with this planning.
After an in-depth review of building conditions, the district and their partners brought together a group of community members made up of a cross-section of McPherson, as well as a group of educators and students, to review these reports and put together a scope of future work that would best equip all students for success.
The committee met nine times, pausing during COVID, and their work included a statistically valid community survey, as well as conversations with the City of McPherson about a possible partnership. The result of this work was the June 2021 bond election, which did not pass.
Recently, after many conversations with the community, the board is restarting the bond planning process, incorporating community interaction and feedback throughout, with the goal of identifying an appropriate long-term solution for McPherson Public School's facility needs.
